Where should seniors be in order to be on schedule?

The 2020-21 school year is quickly coming to an end. Although this year has been very strange, seniors should continue to do their best to finish the year off strong. However, while grades should be a top priority for students, there are other requirements that need to be met in order for seniors to be graduate ready.
Seniors should ensure they have a 2.0 GPA or above. They should also have at least 200 credits in order to be on track for graduation.
“To ensure graduation, students need to be at a minimum of 200 credits right now, have met all of the SUBJECT requirements/currently taking the subject requirements, and have at least a 2.0 GPA or higher. If they meet these 3 then they should be on track for graduation,” said Sanger High School Counselor Aaron Vang.
Luckily, a majority of seniors are taking their graduation very seriously and doing their best to meet the requirements.
“Approximately 600 students are on track for graduation, with no credits to make up,” said Sanger High School Counselor Sherry Satterberg.
Unfortunately, there are still a few students who are struggling to stay on track. Counselors have reached out to these students and are doing all they can to help them meet their requirements before graduation.
“We have about 100 students who have something that they need to make up, in addition to passing their regular classes during the day, in order to graduate in June. We have spoken to those students and their parents so everyone is aware of exactly what the student has to complete to be able to graduate in June with their class,” said Satterberg.
As we all know, everyone is doing distance learning. This has made it difficult for counselors to get in touch with students.
“It is very challenging communicating with seniors this year. I worry that they aren't getting the information they need about senior tasks and activities. This may cause them to miss deadlines that are crucial during senior year,” said Satterberg.

Students like senior Moriah Pena understand that counselors are having just as a challenging year as the students and are very appreciative of their effort to get everyone back on track.
“Under these circumstances the counselors have helped and prepared me for the future to the best that they could, all things considered,” said Pena.
Pena is currently on track to graduate like most of her classmates. She has an excellent GPA, has already applied for college, and is ready for what life after high school has to offer.
“My GPA this year is a 4.0. I have already applied to a college of interest and am just awaiting their decision,” said Pena.
With everything accounted for this year's seniors should be on track for graduation. They should be looking out for emails and reminders, making sure they stay on top of college credits and taking advantage of every opportunity that presents itself.
